Government Trains 4,563 Energy Technology Professionals Over the Past 4 Years
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The government has invested a total of 145.4 billion KRW over the past four years in the 'Energy Workforce Development Project,' producing 4,563 skilled technicians.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the '2021 Energy Innovation Talent Forum' both online and offline on the 24th at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, where it announced the project achievements including this information.
The 4,563 trained technicians are personnel in fields such as intelligent power grids, renewable energy, energy platforms, thermal and gas grids, energy storage systems (ESS), and nuclear power. This includes 778 master's and doctoral level experts in the renewable energy sector.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has launched the operation of the 'Job Navigator' website, which provides energy industry job information to energy companies and job seekers.
Starting with the solar power sector this year, the site plans to sequentially provide job information in six fields by 2025: wind power, hydrogen and fuel cells, ESS, intelligent power grids, and energy efficiency.
At the forum, awards were given to professors and student researchers who achieved outstanding research results in the energy innovation field. Professor Jeong Jihwan of Pusan National University received the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award for excellent research achievements, including producing 61 master's and doctoral graduates and filing 24 patents, while carrying out the workforce development project for the 'Advanced Track of Large Heat Exchanger Systems for Industrial Plant Processes.'
Dr. Cho Kyungguk of Inha University (next-generation polymer electrolyte fuel cells), Master Woo Jongha of Konkuk University (AI technology for optimal power system operation), Master Kwon Ohhyun of Korea Polytechnic University (agro-photovoltaic power generation systems), and Dr. Kim Yoobin of Hanyang University (high-efficiency transportation energy reduction) also received the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award.

Kang Kyungsung, Director of the Energy Industry Office at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, stated, "We will strive to nurture energy innovation talents by significantly expanding energy convergence graduate schools and fostering energy regional cluster talents and advanced personnel in medium-sized enterprises centered on base universities within the energy industry convergence complexes."
