In a statement titled "Death Cannot Cover the Truth," Governor Kim said, "Jeon Du-hwan, as the main culprit of the May 18 bloodshed suppression and the person who ordered the shooting, ultimately ignored the desperate cries for uncovering the truth," and evaluated, "He also refused sincere reflection and apology for the unforgivable criminal acts."
He continued, "Rather than admitting his mistakes, he disparaged and distorted the value of May 18, so no mourning is appropriate for him," he emphasized.
He also said, "Although Jeon Du-hwan is gone, the pain and wounds of May 18 remain," and added, "To fully heal these, the truth of that day must be revealed, which is a historical mission."
He then stated, "Jeonnam Province will take the lead in holding the massacre perpetrators accountable and establishing historical justice," and added, "We will persist until the truth of that unfinished May day is uncovered."
