[Asia Economy Reporters Oh Ju-yeon and Park Jun-i] Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, presented "Transformative Fair Growth" as his national vision, while Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, proposed "Leadership" as his national vision on the 22nd.
On the morning of the same day, both candidates attended the "Presidential Candidates' National Policy Presentation" held at a hotel in Seoul and announced their respective national visions centered on these keywords.
Candidate Lee diagnosed the society as "deeply fractured and conflicted" and emphasized "fair opportunities and sustainable growth." He stated, "The starting point for solving problems is to move toward an era of sustainable growth," adding, "I have named this 'transformative growth'." Lee evaluated the U.S. New Deal policy as the "foundation of a long economic boom" and proposed "pandemic digital transformation" and "transition to renewable energy and decarbonization" as two methods for growth recovery. He also pledged to actively engage in infrastructure development, saying, "Following the highways for industrialization during the Park Chung-hee era and the IT highways under the Kim Dae-jung administration, I will create an energy highway." He mentioned that investing about 10 trillion won to enable buying and selling renewable energy anywhere nationwide could create a new industry worth approximately 40 trillion won.
On the other hand, Candidate Yoon emphasized "leadership" as the core of his national vision, stating, "No matter how hard you try, if the direction is wrong, the results will be disastrous." Yoon said, "Democracy exists to protect freedom, and freedom sets limits on government power," emphasizing, "If I become president, I will firmly uphold the constitutional values of liberal democracy and market economy." Regarding the current society, he assessed, "Liberal democracy is facing serious challenges from neo-totalitarianism and nationalism," and added, "New leadership is needed to lead new changes."

Yoon said, "Solidarity and responsibility to protect freedom are important," and added, "The state must take full responsibility for welfare for socially vulnerable groups and for the care and education of children and youth." He also emphasized, "The most urgent tasks for the next government are overcoming COVID-19, creating jobs, and stabilizing the real estate market," and stated, "I will listen to the market and experts, not ideology." Along with this, he indirectly criticized President Moon Jae-in by saying, "On critical issues, the president must not hide behind but must come forward to explain and communicate with the people."
