KCCI Captivated by 'Saengmyeongjul,' Depicting Workers' Daily Lives and On-Site Scenes
Announcement of Winners for the 8th KCCI Photo Contest
Grand Prize 'Saengmyeongjul' by Kim Doohwan... 75 Winning Works
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] In a photo contest held by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) under the theme "Workplaces and Lives of Businesspeople," a work capturing the work sites and lives of laborers won the grand prize.
The KCCI announced the list of winners for the "8th KCCI Photo Contest" on the 22nd.
The grand prize was awarded to Kim Doo-han's work titled "Lifeline." "Lifeline" is a photograph depicting workers crossing a 70-meter-high steel bridge to have lunch after finishing their tasks at a massive construction site.
Kim Nyeong-man, a photographer and advisor for Monthly Photo Art who served as the head judge, commented, "The overwhelming grandeur of the structure shown in a long shot and the very small figures of the workers are impressive. The vivid colors that contrast with the cold and barren steel structure stand out. It is an interesting photo containing various stories through contrast and comparison."
Winner Kim Doo-han said, "Seeing many workers crossing the precarious steel bridge several times a day to make a living, I suddenly thought that our lives are connected by a single lifeline, which inspired me to document this. I want to share this honor with the workers who are still working hard at their workplaces today," expressing his gratitude.
The excellence awards included a total of four works: two in the media category and two in the general category. The media category excellence award-winning works include "When Will We Be Able to Take Off Our Masks?" (by Lee Jae-moon), a photo showing citizens wearing masks walking in front of a construction wall painted with everyday life scenes at Gwanghwamun Square, and "Sweat for Developing Domestic COVID-19 Treatments" (by Han Joo-hyung), which captures the efforts of domestic pharmaceutical companies sweating to develop vaccines and treatments amid fierce competition among global pharmaceutical giants.
The general category excellence award-winning works include "Workplace" (by Jang Yong-sik), which impressively shows a person working standing atop a rebar structure at a construction site, and "-20℃, The Temperature That Stings the Skin" (by Jung Yi-han), a photo capturing the cold of the workplace penetrating despite wearing double socks, earmuffs, masks, and thick padding.
