[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] KOTRA held the '2021 University Student FTA Utilization Academic Conference' on the 20th at its headquarters in Yeomgok-dong, Seoul, in cooperation with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the agency announced on the 21st.
The event was attended by over 60 people, including lead professors and university students from 11 universities participating in the FTA University Lecture Support Project. In addition to the paper competition and awards ceremony, a job briefing session was held with HR representatives from global foreign-invested companies.
Now in its fourth year, the academic conference focused on themes related to overseas market development by export companies utilizing FTAs and policy proposals to support FTA utilization, emphasizing the linkage between universities and industry in FTA application.
Out of 44 submitted papers on FTA utilization, 16 passed the preliminary document screening and competed in the contest. Awards were given as follows: four papers received the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award, four received the KOTRA President Award, and eight received the KOTRA Academy Director Award. Additionally, two outstanding lead professors who contributed to enhancing the performance of FTA university lectures were awarded the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award.
KOTRA has been implementing the FTA professional workforce training project as a commissioned task from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy since 2013. This year, about 1,000 students from 18 universities nationwide, including Kangwon National University, Keimyung University, and Chosun University, are taking FTA utilization courses.

Meanwhile, as a program linked to the event, KOTRA also held a 'Global Company Employment Environment Briefing.' HR representatives from global foreign-invested companies (Korean branches), such as Nike in the sports fashion sector and NGL Korea in the distribution logistics sector, participated in the briefing to introduce their talent recruitment plans.
