Key Figure in Gandhi School Development and Jirisan Mokhwa Market Opening
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Kim Myung-cheol (62), a Korean medicine doctor famous as the 'Hansens patient primary care physician' in Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam, received the highest award, the Order of Civil Merit Dongbaekjang, at the '2021 Korea Sharing National Awards.'
According to Sancheong-gun on the 19th, the 2021 Korea Sharing National Awards were held on the 10th, jointly hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Community Chest of Korea.
The award ceremony, where 135 people including Korean medicine doctor Kim Myung-cheol received medals, commendations, and presidential citations, will be broadcast on KBS 1TV at 3:10 PM on the 20th.
Dr. Kim, who operates Cheongdam Korean Medicine Clinic in Sinan-myeon, Sancheong-gun, received the medal in recognition of his 28 years of continuous Korean medical volunteer work and contributions to establishing alternative schools for youth.
Originally from Busan, he has been volunteering acupuncture services since his university days, visiting the Busan Pentecostal Peace Village and Sorokdo, where a Hansen's disease hospital is located.
In addition to acupuncture volunteer work, Dr. Kim has served as the representative of the Gandhi Education Community and was also recognized for his contributions to the development of Gandhi School (Jecheon), known as the pioneer of alternative schools in Korea.
Since last year, he has served as the preparatory committee chairman for the establishment of the 'Gyeongnam Sancheong Medical Welfare Social Cooperative,' gathering founding consenters who share the will to realize regional medical welfare.

Currently, the cooperative meets the establishment requirements with over 500 members and capital of 100 million won. The inaugural general meeting will be held on the 27th at the Sancheong Culture and Arts Center.
