Jeonju Jinbuk-dong Selected as Candidate Site for Small-Scale Housing Maintenance Management Area
Selection in the Evaluation of the 2nd Candidate Sites for Small-scale Housing Maintenance Management Areas by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonju City announced on the 19th that the area south of the Express Bus Terminal in Jinbuk-dong, Deokjin-gu, was selected in the recent evaluation of the ‘2nd Candidate Site Contest for Small-scale Housing Maintenance Management Areas,’ promoted as part of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s ‘3080+ Urban Regeneration Housing Supply Leading Project.’
The small-scale housing maintenance management area is a system introduced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to encourage planned public and private small-scale maintenance projects in aging low-rise residential areas.
Following the selection of a total of 20 sites as the 1st candidate sites in April, this time, along with 7 sites in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon, and 1 site in Ulsan Metropolitan City, Deokjin-gu in Jeonju was the only basic local government included.
Once designated as a small-scale housing maintenance management area by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, up to 15 billion KRW in national funds can be supported for infrastructure and shared facility installation costs, raising expectations for the promotion of residential environment improvement projects.
The area south of the Express Bus Terminal in Jinbuk-dong, Jeonju City, has a high degree of aging, with more than 84% of buildings being over 30 years old.
Especially located in the central area of Jeonju City, the area has poor infrastructure and dense aging housing due to population decline caused by urban expansion, making rapid residential regeneration necessary.
Following its selection as a 2nd candidate site, Jeonju City plans to cooperate with LH to establish management plans such as maintenance plans and infrastructure installation.
Afterward, the established management plan will be proposed to Jeollabuk-do Province, and through administrative procedures such as public consultation with residents and review by the Urban Planning Committee, it will be designated as a management area.
Jeonju City expects that if finally selected as a small-scale housing maintenance management area, it will improve the residential environment of the deteriorated old downtown area, which is a development blind spot where large-scale development is difficult, and contribute to stabilizing the housing market through the supply of rental housing.
