View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] The approval rating gap between Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, and Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, is once again in a close race with a 1 percentage point difference.
According to the joint November 3rd week National Barometer Survey (NBS) conducted by four polling agencies?Embrain Public, K-Stat Research, Korea Research, and Hankook Research?the four-way hypothetical presidential race showed Yoon at 36%, Lee at 35%, Ahn Cheol-soo of the People’s Party at 5%, and Sim Sang-jung of the Justice Party at 4%. The 'undecided' group was recorded at 18%.
While Yoon, who had reached his highest point last week, dropped by 3 percentage points, Lee rose by 3 percentage points, narrowing the gap between the two from 7 percentage points last week to 1 percentage point.
When asked about the expected winner of next year’s presidential election regardless of support, 42% chose Yoon, and 38% chose Lee.
Regarding the issue of greatest interest related to the presidential candidates, 35% of respondents cited 'Lee Jae-myung and the Daejang-dong preferential treatment allegations,' followed by 22% citing 'Yoon Seok-yeol and the accusation of report fabrication.'
In the evaluation of diplomatic and security policy capabilities, 36% responded that 'Lee would do well,' placing him 9 percentage points ahead of Yoon, who received 27%. Ahn received 6%, and Sim 3%.
Party support ratings were as follows: People Power Party 36%, Democratic Party 33%, Justice Party 5%, People’s Party 4%, and Open Democratic Party 3%. The undecided group was 20%.
The gap in party support between the People Power Party and the Democratic Party also narrowed from 8 percentage points to 3 percentage points. The People Power Party fell 3 percentage points from the previous week to 36%, while the Democratic Party rose 2 percentage points to 33%. This appears to be the second consecutive week of narrowing support gaps between the two parties since the first week of November (People Power Party 38%, Democratic Party 27%).
This survey was conducted over three days from the 15th to the 17th, targeting 1,004 men and women aged 18 and over nationwide.
