"Want to Experience Again!" ... Dongmyeong University, Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Department's Hands-on Career Experience Gains Popularity
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, trainee reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology at Dongmyung University is holding a unique career experience program for middle and high school students.
On December 10, about 30 students from Geonkuk High School and Grace School will be invited to participate in the "Dongmyung Speech and Hearing Career Experience Program."
The experience program consists of practical career exploration activities including ▲career exploration of speech therapists and audiologists ▲soundproof booth experience and pure-tone audiometry ▲tympanometry ▲speech sound evaluation using CSL voice analysis equipment ▲vocal cord massage experience for maintaining a healthy voice ▲"Is my pronunciation accurate?" ▲"What is my vocabulary level?" ▲visiting popular spots on campus and taking certification photos.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, the experience missions were conducted in small groups of 2 to 3 students, teamed with 1 to 2 senior students.
The program is designed as a specialized experience where professors specializing in speech therapy and auditory rehabilitation interpret the students' evaluation results in each field.
At Gwang-an Middle School, the career experience program has already been conducted as part of the autonomous semester curriculum.
A participating student said, "I have seen videos of unusual jobs on YouTube, but this is the first time I have actually experienced it myself, so it was very good," and added, "If there is such an experience, I want to do it again."
The Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology at Dongmyung University stated, "We aim to provide middle and high school students with practical career exploration opportunities by directly experiencing various speech, language, and hearing evaluations, and to raise interest and awareness about people who have communication difficulties due to speech, language, and hearing loss."
This program was fully launched in 2021 as part of the STAR+ project.
