Gwangju Chamber of Commerce 'Gwangju-Jeonnam Development Project Contest' Award Ceremony
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Chairman Jeong Chang-seon) announced that it held the ‘Gwangju-Jeonnam Development Project Contest Award Ceremony’ at 4 p.m. on the 17th.
The contest was held for 11 weeks from August 2 to October 11 to discover projects or ideas that would lead to groundbreaking development in the Gwangju-Jeonnam region by responding to the rapidly changing business environment and industrial structure amid the economic downturn caused by COVID-19.
The selection evaluation committee, composed of advisory members of the Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry, selected one grand prize winner (team), three excellence award winners (teams), and six prize winners (teams) from the entries.
The grand prize honor went to Jang Jin-tae.
Jang proposed the idea of creating a large-scale expo park along the Yeongsan River basin that integrates exhibitions, experiences, shopping, and play with camping as the theme. This idea received high scores in evaluation criteria such as purpose suitability, originality of the idea, and regional ripple effects.
The excellence awards were given to the Park Sisters team (team leader Park Ji-hyun), Kim Hyung-joo, and Lim Dong-ryul.
They proposed the ‘Advanced Tourism Metaverse Theme Park Project,’ ‘Construction of the May Observatory and Creation of the Sajik History and Culture Tourism Belt,’ and ‘Attraction of Large-scale Complex Distribution Facilities,’ respectively.
Additionally, Ahn Jeong-hoon, the Han Janhae team (team leader Kim Young-mook), the Join Coin team (team leader Shin Seung-sik), Shin Deok-hee, the RH+ team (team leader Jang Hee-won), and Kim Min-chan received encouragement awards.
Jang, the grand prize winner, said, “I have long felt regretful seeing the vast land left unused while crossing the Yeongsan River bridge,” adding, “I hope this idea will be realized so that Gwangju-Jeonnam can stand tall as the mecca of camping and contribute, even in a small way, to regional development.”
Prize money will be awarded as follows: 10 million KRW for the grand prize winner (team), 3 million KRW each for the three excellence award winners (teams), and 1 million KRW each for the six prize winners (teams).
Furthermore, the excellent projects discovered through the contest have been proposed as pledges for the 2022 presidential and local elections to each political party and candidate, and will also be reflected in the Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s projects for the following year.
