China's No. 2: "We Cannot Grow Isolated from the World"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suhwan] Wang Qishan, a close aide to Chinese President Xi Jinping and the second-highest-ranking official in China, emphasized the necessity of international cooperation, stating that China cannot pursue growth while isolated from the world.
On the 16th (local time), at the New Economy Forum hosted by Bloomberg, Vice President Wang said, "China cannot develop in isolation from the world," adding, "The world also cannot develop without China's help."
He added, "China will not hesitate to expand openness and promote reform efforts."
Vice President Wang emphasized, "Going forward, China will offer more market investments and growth opportunities to the world," and "will contribute to building a developed global economy."
These remarks by Vice President Wang came just one day after the US-China summit.
During the previous day's summit, US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping revealed differences over the Taiwan issue but agreed to continue consultations on various issues within a broad framework.
This led to analyses that, despite relations between the two countries deteriorating to their worst, a breakthrough in dialogue had been made.
Vice President Wang stated, "The relationship between the US and China also affects the future of the world," and "Both sides must focus on cooperation and strive to manage and control differences."
Wang Huiyao, founder of the China Center for International Knowledge on Development and an advisor to the Chinese government, evaluated, "China wants healthy competition with the US," and "Yesterday's summit sent a positive message to the world that these two countries will cooperate."
Additionally, at the forum, Vice President Wang said, "The world should pursue fair distribution of COVID-19 vaccines." He also stated that countries worldwide "must strive to maintain stable supply chains."
