Grandmother Kim Sundeok Donates Scholarship Fund to Gwangju Seo-gu Foundation, Heartwarming Gesture

According to Seo-gu on the 17th, the protagonist of the story is 81-year-old grandmother Kim Sun-deok, who donated 30 million won in scholarship funds to the Seo-gu Scholarship Foundation (Chairman Yoon Poong-sik) on the 10th of this month.

Grandmother Kim Sun-deok was once more passionate about her studies than anyone else, but she temporarily put aside that dream to focus on making a living for her children.

With the motto "Live each day sincerely," she ran a street food stall and was busy with her livelihood, while also practicing sharing activities for over 20 years, such as supporting warm meals for the elderly at Bitgoeul Health Town and continuously supporting the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation.

This scholarship fund donation came about after she learned about the Seo-gu Scholarship Foundation through an introduction by an acquaintance, and she decided to use the money she had saved over nearly 10 years meaningfully by donating it to local students.

Currently, grandmother Kim participates in Seo-gu’s public-type senior job project, contributing to the local community by assisting with cleanliness activities inside and outside kindergartens and helping with child care.

Grandmother Kim Sun-deok said, “I have many regrets for not being able to devote myself to my studies due to difficult circumstances,” and added, “I pray that students will overcome economic hardships and spread their wings of happiness, even if only a little with my help.”
