Samsung SDI and Seoul National University Select Over 100 Battery Scholars Over 10 Years
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Samsung SDI signed an agreement on the 17th to operate a battery talent development program together with Seoul National University. Named SSBT (SNU-Samsung SDI Battery Track) after the initials of the university and company’s English names, this program will be operated for 10 years starting next year.
This program aims to cultivate core personnel in the fields of battery materials, cells, and systems, selecting more than 100 scholarship students in total. Departments participating include the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Department of Chemistry at Seoul National University. Professor Kang Ki-seok of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering will serve as the lead professor for the training program.

Selected master’s and doctoral students will complete battery-related courses and conduct research, while also having opportunities to participate in training programs and contests supported by Samsung. They will receive tuition and personal scholarships during their degree programs and will join Samsung SDI after graduation. Jang Hyuk, head of the Samsung SDI research institute, stated, "We will establish a foundation to systematically support and nurture outstanding talent to lead the battery industry, creating an opportunity for academia and industry to develop together."
