Cheong National Communication Chief's Reason for Promoting SBS 'Independent Hero' Broadcast
Former Chairman of Kim Sang-ok Martyr Memorial Association, Chief Park Su-hyun... "Hope Kim Sang-ok's Great Struggle Be Widely Known"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] "On the night of the 18th at 10:30 PM, SBS will air the episode about Doctor Kim Sang-ok on 'Kkokkomu (The Story That Bites Its Tail).' We ask for your many views."
Park Soo-hyun, the Blue House Chief of Public Communication, said this in a post on Facebook on the 17th. The reason the Blue House Chief of Public Communication voluntarily promoted a specific broadcaster’s program is related to the 'Day of the Patriotic Martyrs.'
Chief Park explained, "Today is the 'Day of the Patriotic Martyrs.' Although I am currently serving as acting chief due to my appointment as the Blue House Chief of Public Communication, I have been working as the 11th president of the 'Kim Sang-ok Doctor Memorial Association.'"
According to Chief Park, Doctor Kim Sang-ok was a figure who, after blowing up the Jongno Police Station in 1923, fought a one-man street war against 1,000 Japanese military police officers.
Chief Park explained, "He achieved a brilliant record by killing 16 Japanese military police officers and was a great independence hero who committed suicide with his last bullet to die for the country."
The real person portrayed by actor Park Hee-soon, who acted out the scene of committing suicide while fighting against Japanese military police in the movie 'Miljeong' starring Song Kang-ho and Gong Yoo, is Doctor Kim Sang-ok.
Chief Park said, "To honor this great spirit of independence, in 1948, Kim Gu, together with Lee Hoe-young and Cho So-ang, directly established the memorial association and served as an advisor. This was the first memorial association in the Republic of Korea."
Chief Park added, "Unfortunately, such a great independence hero has not been widely known," and "I hope that the great struggle of Doctor Kim Sang-ok will be widely recognized."
