[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] Amid protests demanding monarchy reform, Maha Vajiralongkorn, the King of Thailand (Rama X), has returned to Germany with a retinue of 250 people, including 30 pet dogs and royal consorts.
On the 16th, The Times and other outlets cited the German tabloid Bild reporting that King Vajiralongkorn was spotted at the Munich Hilton Airport Hotel. The king, dressed in sportswear, was seen heading to the hotel swimming pool escorted by young female attendants and male bodyguards.
According to the report, the trip to Germany after about a year included over 250 attendants and royal consorts, along with 30 pet dogs. The king is scheduled to stay at the Hilton Airport Hotel for 11 days and reportedly rented the entire fourth floor.
King Vajiralongkorn traveled to Thailand last October to commemorate the 4th anniversary of his late father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, and then returned to Germany on the 8th of this month. He had also stayed in Germany last year despite the state of emergency declared in Thailand due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, pro-democracy protests continue in Thailand. Earlier on the 10th, the Thai Constitutional Court ruled that three key protest leaders demanding royal reform were attempting to overthrow the constitutional monarchy with the king as head of state. In response, about 1,000 citizens marched to the German Embassy in Bangkok on the 14th, targeting King Vajiralongkorn.
