Resident Participation Budget Committee Meeting, Final Approval of 18 Projects with 2.47 Billion Won
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam, held a Residents' Participatory Budget Committee meeting in the large conference room of the county office on the 15th and finalized the residents' participatory budget projects to be reflected in the initial 2022 budget.
From May to July, the county conducted a proposal contest for residents' participatory budget projects for the 2022 budget formulation, receiving 20 projects in three categories (resident-led, youth-led, and regional-led). These projects underwent feasibility reviews by the relevant departments and further detailing.
Additionally, 43 projects proposed through residents' budget schools operated by region and budget formulation surveys were also reviewed for feasibility by the departments and evaluated by the Residents' Participatory Budget Subcommittee in October, before being submitted as final agenda items to this Residents' Participatory Budget Committee meeting.
The projects finalized through this Residents' Participatory Budget Committee include 18 projects across three categories, totaling KRW 2,475.6 million, such as ▲Exciting Camp! Economy ON! ▲Resident-participatory Female Perfumer Training Project ▲Gimcheon Sparkling Smart Intersection Alert ▲Youth Communication Radio ▲Sojeongcheon Revitalization Campaign.
The county plans to reflect the finally confirmed residents' participatory budget projects in next year's initial budget draft, and after review and approval by the county council in December, the results will be posted on the county office website by the end of December.
Gu In-mo, the mayor of Geochang-gun, said, “Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, I sincerely thank the residents who actively participated to ensure that various projects needed by the residents could be reflected in the budget. Next year, we will make every administrative effort to operate the residents' participatory budget system more effectively.”
