Cuckoo Achieves Record Sales at China's Singles' Day... Standing Tall as the 'K-Rice Cooker'
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Junhyung] Cuckoo Electronics announced on the 16th that it achieved its highest-ever sales performance during China’s largest shopping festival, the ‘Guanggun Festival (光棍節),’ with an increase of more than 30% compared to the previous year.
By sales channel, on Tmall, Alibaba’s representative e-commerce platform in China, sales increased by 58% compared to the same period last year. Sales on JD.com rose by 31% compared to the same period last year. On the 31st of last month, Cuckoo Electronics also ranked first in imported rice cooker sales, surpassing Japan’s Zojirushi and the global kitchen appliance brand Panasonic. Rice cooker sales on the rapidly growing local Chinese e-commerce platform Pinduoduo increased by 331% compared to the previous year.
Cuckoo Electronics attributes the improvement in Guanggun Festival sales performance to its full-scale entry into the Chinese online market starting last year. The company established two additional online sales corporations besides its Qingdao corporation last year. The company also explained that rice cookers localized to reflect Chinese food culture received a positive response from consumers.

A Cuckoo Electronics official said, “As a result of efforts to expand market share and influence in Chinese online distribution channels, we achieved meaningful results at this year’s Guanggun Festival,” adding, “We plan to expand market dominance through differentiated products tailored to Chinese consumers and aggressive marketing.”
