‘Indie’ Filmmakers' Festival … Busan City Opens the 23rd Busan Independent Film Festival
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Trainee Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] An independent film festival searching for hidden gems of 'indie films' will be held in Busan.
The Busan Metropolitan City will host the '23rd Busan Independent Film Festival' for five days from the 18th to the 22nd at the Busan Cinema Center, BNK Busan Bank Art Cinema Corner Theater, and Musai Theater.
The festival will showcase a total of 53 independent films across five categories including 'Made in Busan' and 'Deep Focus,' with additional events such as opening and closing ceremonies, special talks, and cine-talks.
In the competitive category 'Made in Busan,' 16 films selected through preliminary screening from 78 submissions will be screened.
The 'Deep Focus' section, which highlights the works of mid-career independent film directors, will feature films by director Jeong Jae-hoon. Five films including 'Towards the Gentle Side' and 'Hosugil' will be screened, with a cine-talk with the director scheduled after the screening of 'Hosugil.'
Besides film screenings, a special talk titled 'The Work of Making Films' is prepared.
The talk will include Lee Nam-young, who won the Grand Prize at the Busan Independent Film Festival for 'End of the Season,' Yoon Ji-hye, who received the Special Jury Prize for 'Thursday,' director Jang Tae-gu who directed 'Moasseun Diary,' and cinematographer Cho Young-dae, who has filmed numerous music videos and short films in Busan.
