'Republic of Korea Youth Peace Economy Open Lab Project'
6 Teams Selected on the 17th... Differential Business Support Funding Provided
[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] The final presentation of the "Republic of Korea Youth Peace Economy Open Lab Project," which seeks solutions for the peace economy on the Korean Peninsula together with young people, will be held on the 17th at Dongdaemun Design Plaza Seoul-On.
Gyeonggi Province stated, "In collaboration with the Council of Governors of Provinces of the Republic of Korea, the project aims to discover and implement future agendas and ideas that contribute to the sustainable development of South and North Korea and the establishment of lasting peace, involving young people interested in the peace economy and inter-Korean exchange and cooperation."
According to the province, an imagination contest was held from June to July to gather ideas from young people, discovering a total of 551 ideas in fields such as IT and the 4th Industrial Revolution, fair travel, international development, culture and arts, North Korea and urban development, and social economy.
Among these, 51 teams with outstanding ideas were selected and went through an in-depth idea development process via open tables involving professional facilitators, inter-Korean and startup experts, ultimately selecting six teams without ranking.
The selected teams are ▲ Dagachi (Peace tea experience of everyday culture in South and North Korea) ▲ Defnuri (Inter-Korean sign language travel conversation book for the deaf in South and North Korea) ▲ Metabind (Connecting Seoul to Pyongyang in the metaverse) ▲ Euneungjeongi Brewery (Inheritance of traditional culture through brewing North Korean-style home-brewed liquor) ▲ Peace Ticon (Peaceful unification through emoticons) ▲ Haullim (North Korean-style meal kits enjoyed at home).
These teams were provided with 3 million KRW in business development funds to realize their ideas and opportunities to concretize their projects through consulting with experts in each field.
At the final presentation, the six teams will present their peace economy realization ideas, commercialization processes, prototypes, and progress and achievements so far, and the final ranking will be decided through evaluations by experts in each field.
According to the ranking, a total of 15 million KRW in business development funds will be supported: 5 million KRW for one grand prize team, 3 million KRW for one excellence award team, 2 million KRW each for two outstanding award teams, and 1.5 million KRW each for two encouragement award teams.
A provincial official said, "Through this project, we hope to expand young people's empathy for peace and unification and increase public interest in inter-Korean exchange and the peace economy."
