According to Muan-gun on the 15th, about 100 members of various institutions and social organizations, including the Hyeongyeong-myeon Cultural Welfare Agricultural Cooperative Operating Committee, the Prosperity Association, the Village Chiefs' Council, and the Women's Association, as well as residents, attended the completion ceremony to assert the legitimacy of opposing the relocation of the Gwangju Combat Airfield to Muan and condemned Gwangju Metropolitan City for unilaterally pushing forward the relocation.
A member of the Hyeongyeong-myeon Cultural Welfare Center Operating Committee stated, “The social costs associated with the military airport relocation reduce the economic benefits of integrating the civilian airport and provoke resentment among residents concerned about noise.” He raised his voice, saying, “We will definitely prevent the military airport relocation so that future generations can live in a pleasant environment free from fighter jet noise.”
Meanwhile, institutions and social organizations in Hyeongyeong-myeon plan to continue their opposition activities against the relocation of Gwangju Military Airport to Muan in solidarity with the nine towns and townships in the jurisdiction.
