Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture-Porsche Korea Unveil 'Porsche Dream Art Ddareungi'... Public Art Project
365 Units of 'Art Ddareungi' Featuring Citizen-Submitted Designs Introduced at City Hall, Gwanghwamun, and Samsung Station Rental Stations
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul's public bicycle system, Ddareungi, has given birth to the ‘Art Ddareungi,’ which incorporates citizens' artistic imagination.
On the 15th, the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture announced that Park Ki-ppeum's design proposal ‘Moamoa’ was selected as the grand prize winner of the ‘Porsche Dream Art Ddareungi’ design contest held in collaboration with Porsche Korea. The ‘Art Ddareungi’ was produced through donations from the public art project ‘Porsche Do Dream,’ a social contribution campaign conducted by Porsche Korea.
The specifications and brand logo of Ddareungi were maintained, while the frame, top tube, down tube, and fork were designed inspired by Korea’s traditional patchwork textile, Jogakbo. The wheels were changed to fluorescent yellow to make them highly visible even when riding at night. Like Jogakbo, which weaves together discarded fabric scraps into beautiful patterns, the design symbolizes citizens coming together to overcome the COVID-19 crisis and restore daily life. The design’s completeness was enhanced with input from Roland Heiler, a designer at Porsche’s German headquarters, and Professor Ahn Byung-hak of Hongik University’s Graduate School of Design Contents.
The ‘Art Ddareungi,’ featuring designs proposed directly by citizens, will be presented in a total of 365 units, symbolizing vitality and joy in everyday life throughout the year. Starting from the 16th, they will be available for use at Ddareungi rental stations near Seoul City Hall, Gwanghwamun, and Samsung Station on Line 2. The rental method remains the same as the existing Ddareungi.
On the 15th at 10 a.m., the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture held the first public unveiling and test ride event of the ‘Art Ddareungi’ at Cheonggye Plaza. Participants rode along the Cheonggyecheon bicycle path to experience the transformed Ddareungi. The event was attended by Holger Gehrmann, CEO of Porsche Korea; Park Sang-won, Chairman of the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture; Lee Chang-gi, CEO of the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture; Park Ki-ppeum, the design contest winner; and Daniel Lindemann, Seoul City’s public relations ambassador.
Meanwhile, the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture and Porsche Korea signed a business agreement in February and have been conducting social contribution campaigns to support citizens’ cultural enjoyment and the cultural and artistic ecosystem. They plan to continue presenting various art projects through ongoing cooperation.
