Gyeongbuk Yeongju City Signs MOU to Establish Microbiome Cluster
City Strategy Driving Future Core Industries
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Yeongju City, Gyeongbuk Province, is pursuing a city strategy to lead the "microbiome industry."
On the 12th, Yeongju City held a forum on "Industrialization of Microbiome for Utilization in Yeongju's Agriculture and Livestock Sector" and announced that it signed a business agreement with related organizations to establish a cluster.
In the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, the microbiome, which is attracting attention as a promising bio field, is a term combining "Microbe," meaning microorganisms, and "Biome," meaning ecosystem.
Yeongju City pledged mutual cooperation with the Korea Microbiome Association, Kwangwoon University Microbiome Center, and Microbiome Co., Ltd.
The participating organizations plan to carry out projects such as establishing strategies for the microbiome cluster, planning specialized projects in the agriculture and livestock sector, promoting the cluster and pursuing joint projects, discovering joint projects and investment companies for overseas expansion, and planning microbiome research and development and technological cooperation.
The forum was attended by microbiome and local agriculture and livestock stakeholders. The forum focused on the strategization of microbiomes in Yeongju agriculture and their application to farming.
The city plans to separately promote the distribution of microbiome complex microorganisms to farms and the establishment of cluster formation plans to foster the microbiome industry as a future new growth engine.
Mayor Jang Wook-hyun said, "We will seek industrialization plans specialized in the agriculture and livestock sector and work toward the common goal of establishing a microbiome cluster based on mutual trust with institutions."
