Naju-si Begins Purchase of 2021 Public Reserve Rice Paddy Dry Rice

[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Han-hyeok] Naju City, Jeollanam-do, has started purchasing dried rice for public stockpiling harvested this year.

The city announced that starting from the 9th at Bonghwang-myeon Dongmyeong Milling Plant No.127 (Naju Plain Donggang RPC), it began purchasing 2021 public stockpiling dried rice (bagged rice) at each eup, myeon, and dong until the 30th.

This year's purchase volume is 168,343 bags of 40kg dried rice, consisting of two varieties: ‘Sindongjin’ and ‘Saechungmu’.

The city is focusing all efforts on purchasing the entire allocated volume this year by promoting the purchase method and securing storage warehouse space.

Additionally, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, a staggered shipment system by village is being implemented, and the purchase procedures will be flexibly operated, including unloading and document preparation by shipping farmers, returning home, and conducting grade evaluation in the presence of village representatives.

The purchase price for public stockpiling rice is determined based on the nationwide average farm-gate rice price during the harvest season (October to December).

Immediately after purchase, an advance payment of 30,000 KRW per 40kg is paid to farmers, and the remaining balance is finalized and paid by the end of the year after the purchase price is confirmed.

Mayor Kang In-gyu visited the Bonghwang public stockpiling rice purchase site that morning to encourage farmers who have worked hard in the fields throughout the year and to listen to their difficulties.

Mayor Kang said, “Despite difficult conditions such as the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and rural labor shortages, we will steadily proceed with the purchase of public stockpiling rice so that the valuable sweat of farmers protecting the nation’s life industry can bear good fruit.”
