LG Electronics Supports ESG for 50 Partners to Promote Sustainable Win-Win Growth
Global Certification Companies UL and TUV Rheinland Conduct ESG Audits of Partners Based on RBA Code of Conduct
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] LG Electronics recently announced on the 9th that as a sustainable win-win cooperation measure, 50 partner companies received support to confirm and improve the suitability of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management from global certification companies 'UL' and 'TUV Rheinland,' recognized by RBA (Responsible Business Alliance).
RBA is a nonprofit organization formed by over 170 global companies to practice social responsibility. It supports companies in establishing safe working environments, ensuring the dignity of workers, and operating in an environmentally friendly and ethical manner.
Since July this year, the certification companies have visited partner companies to inspect ESG items such as labor, safety, health, environment, and ethics based on the RBA Code of Conduct. They supported partner companies in resolving areas needing improvement on their own, and issued suitability certificates to those who completed ESG inspections and improvements. LG Electronics and UL visited Taehwa Enterprise in Changwon, Gyeongnam, one of the 50 partner companies, to deliver the suitability certificate on the same day.
Previously, LG Electronics joined RBA in 2010 and has been encouraging not only domestic and overseas business sites but also partner companies to self-inspect ESG fields according to the RBA Code of Conduct since 2011. Last year, 1,416 primary partner companies were subject to ESG self-inspection, and from this year, major secondary partner companies are also conducting self-inspections.
LG Electronics directly inspects sites of partner companies whose self-inspection results fall below a certain score to identify risk factors. Afterwards, it provides consulting by sharing ways to improve so that partner companies can enhance their status to the target level. Additionally, since 2015, LG Electronics has visited partner companies annually to check for potential risks such as fire or safety accidents inside business sites. Since 2017, it has shared the importance of ESG and practical methods through various training programs to help partner companies strengthen their workplace safety management capabilities and raise safety awareness among their employees.
