Gyeonggi Office of Education Achieves Great Success for 2 Consecutive Years at the National Bilingual Speaking Contest
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education achieved excellent results for two consecutive years at the 'National Bilingual Speaking Contest.'
The Gyeonggi Office of Education announced on the 9th that all five participants representing Gyeonggi Province received awards at the event hosted by the Ministry of Education and organized by the Central Multicultural Education Center and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies to encourage bilingual learning among students from multicultural families and to foster students' diverse language use and global citizenship skills. A total of 53 students from across the country participated in this event.
In the elementary division, Kang Sophia (Wonil Elementary School) and Park Jeyeon (Bansong Elementary School) won the gold and bronze awards, respectively. In the middle school division, Blessing (Boyoung Girls' High School), Lee Junhyun (Uijeongbu Gwangdong High School), and Maria (Wongok High School) received the grand prize, gold, and bronze awards, respectively.
The awardees spoke about their dreams and introduced their parents' countries and cultures using Korean as well as Russian, Chinese, Hungarian, and Ewe (Togo) languages.
Kang Simwon, Director of Democratic Citizenship Education at the Gyeonggi Office of Education, said, "I am very proud of our students who pioneer their future careers with their identity and pride, and the teachers dedicated to multicultural education," adding, "The Office of Education will continue to strengthen support to create 'students growing together, diverse and harmonious schools'."

The National Bilingual Speaking Contest has been held annually since 2013, and the five students participating this time were selected through the Gyeonggi Bilingual Speaking Contest held last October.
