Professor Lee Seok-jong of Dermatology at Kyungpook National University Hospital Elected as the 9th President of the Korean Skin Cancer Society
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Professor Seokjong Lee of the Department of Dermatology at Kyungpook National University Hospital was elected as the 9th president of the Korean Skin Cancer Society at the 16th Korean Skin Cancer Society and the 6th Melanoma Symposium held on the 6th. His term will last until February 2024.
Skin cancer was once a rare cancer among Koreans and did not attract much attention, but recently, due to the rapid increase in the elderly population and changes in external factors such as ultraviolet exposure, it has been rapidly increasing and has been included among the top 10 cancers in Korea by incidence since the late 2010s.
Professor Lee successfully initiated the 1st Melanoma Society in 2010 solely through the Department of Dermatology at Kyungpook National University Hospital, and after hosting the 4th conference, handed over the operation to the Korean Skin Cancer Society. Based on this successful past experience, he is currently actively devoted to research and treatment of skin cancer, especially melanoma.
Professor Seokjong Lee said, “Recently, we aim to strengthen education on drug treatments for skin cancer (such as targeted therapy and immunotherapy), which have been rapidly recognized for their effectiveness, and establish a process to verify their effectiveness in Koreans.”
He added, “We will strengthen education to raise the standard of skin cancer treatment performance and strive to improve the cure rate of skin cancer through multidisciplinary cooperation within hospitals.”
