1,318 New COVID-19 Cases Confirmed by 6 PM on the 8th
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] From midnight to 6 p.m. on the 8th, the number of new COVID-19 positive cases nationwide was reported to be 1,318, according to Yonhap News Agency's compilation of data from quarantine authorities and local governments.
This figure is 14 fewer than the 1,332 cases recorded at the same time the previous day, reflecting a decrease in the number of tests conducted over the weekend and a smaller scale of new cases compared to weekdays. This count excludes Busan among the 17 metropolitan local governments nationwide, as Busan has stopped releasing interim figures starting this month. One week ago, on the 1st, the number of new cases at the same time was 1,159.
By region, 1,008 new cases were reported in the Seoul metropolitan area, and 310 in non-metropolitan areas. Since there is still time until midnight when the count closes, the number of new cases announced on the 9th is expected to increase from this figure. On the previous day, 428 additional cases were recorded after 6 p.m., bringing the final total to 1,760. The average daily number of new cases over the past week is 2,188, of which 2,165 are locally transmitted cases, accounting for the majority.
