Gyeongnam Province, First Metropolitan Local Government to Receive Ministry of the Interior and Safety's 'Outstanding Local Regulation Innovation Institution' Certification
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 8th that it has become the first metropolitan local government to receive the Excellent Institution Certification in the '2021 Local Regulatory Innovation Excellent Institution Certification System' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The 'Local Regulatory Innovation Excellent Institution Certification System' is a system implemented since 2018 to strengthen the innovation capabilities of local governments.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety evaluates a total of 20 local regulatory innovation indicators, including the regulatory innovation foundation of basic local governments, performance creation and dissemination, and collaboration on key projects, and selects local governments that score 750 points or more out of 1000 as excellent institutions.
Starting this year, metropolitan local governments were also included in the evaluation target, and the system was implemented nationwide for all local governments.
Metropolitan local governments are evaluated by relative evaluation, and among institutions that scored 750 points or more in the provincial sector, Gyeongsangnam-do, which achieved the highest score, received the excellent institution certification for the first time among metropolitan governments.
This year, the province improved the existing regulatory innovation process to revitalize the local economy, which was stagnated due to COVID-19, and tried many new policies that residents could feel, which was evaluated as a key factor in obtaining the excellent institution certification.
With this certification, the institution will receive an institutional commendation and a financial incentive (special grant) of 100 million KRW, and the excellent institution certification is valid for three years.
Following the presidential institutional commendation received in last year's local regulatory reform performance evaluation, the province proved itself as a leader in regulatory innovation by being certified as an excellent institution for local regulatory innovation this year.
Jo Young-jin, Director of Planning and Coordination Office of the province, said, "Going forward, Gyeongsangnam-do will take the lead in regulatory innovation and make further efforts to improve unreasonable regulations that not only residents but all citizens can feel."
