Iljin Highsolus Develops Hydrogen Tanks for European Market
[Asia Economy Reporter Junhyung Lee] Iljin High Solus, a subsidiary of Iljin Group, announced on the 8th that it is developing a next-generation fuel storage system for hydrogen electric vehicles to supply to European automakers.
Iljin High Solus is developing a flat type 4 hydrogen storage system that can be installed in the battery space under existing electric vehicles. The goal is to share the production platform between hydrogen vehicles and electric vehicles. Iljin High Solus announced the related project on the 2nd of this month through the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's 'Global Technology Cooperation Project.'
The company explained that the next-generation hydrogen storage system requires high technological expertise. This is because various technologies are needed, such as long and thin hydrogen cylinders that produce high output and modules that densely connect cylinders vertically and in parallel. Once this hydrogen storage system is commercialized, hydrogen vehicles can be mass-produced using existing electric vehicle production lines. This means that the production cost of hydrogen vehicles can be significantly reduced.
