View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] On the 8th, marking one week since the implementation of 'gradual daily recovery (With Corona),' the number of new COVID-19 cases in South Korea dropped to 1,760, falling into the 1,000s for the first time in six days. However, this is analyzed to be influenced by the 'weekend effect,' where the number of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests decreases over the weekend, while the weekly average of locally transmitted cases rose to 2,165, showing an upward trend for 15 consecutive days.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight on the same day, the cumulative number of new COVID-19 cases in South Korea increased by 1,760 to a total of 381,694. Of these, 1,733 were locally transmitted and 27 were imported cases.
The number of new cases as of midnight on Mondays has shown a continuous increase: 1,030 on October 18 → 1,167 on October 25 → 1,665 on November 1 → 1,733 on November 8. The weekly average of locally transmitted cases also rose to 2,164.7.
By region, the Seoul metropolitan area accounted for 1,335 cases, with Seoul at 700, Gyeonggi at 538, and Incheon at 97, making up 77.0% of the total.
The number of cases outside the metropolitan area totaled 398, distributed as follows: ▲Busan 33 ▲Daegu 34 ▲Gwangju 28 ▲Daejeon 2 ▲Ulsan 5 ▲Sejong 1 ▲Gangwon 30 ▲Chungbuk 33 ▲Chungnam 62 ▲Jeonbuk 21 ▲Jeonnam 17 ▲Gyeongbuk 57 ▲Gyeongnam 39 ▲Jeju 16.
Among the 27 imported cases, 4 were detected during quarantine, and 23 were confirmed in the local community.
The death toll increased by 13 the previous day, bringing the total cumulative deaths to 2,980, with a fatality rate of 0.78%. The number of critically ill patients in medical care rose by 4 to 409, maintaining the 400s for three consecutive days.

The vaccination rate for the first dose relative to the population is 80.9%. Among those aged 18 and over, 92.6% have completed the first dose.
