[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The Korea Road Traffic Authority announced on the 8th that it conducted the 'Seoul Delivery Rider Safety Education' in collaboration with the Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU), the Korea Platform Freelancer Labor Mutual Aid Association, and the Korea Safety Care Service Association.
The training, held on the 6th at the Seoul Dobong and Gangnam Driver's License Examination Centers, was attended by 166 motorcycle delivery workers. This education project was selected through a consortium formed by the Korea Road Traffic Authority and participating organizations in response to a Seoul city public contest aimed at preventing the recent surge in motorcycle traffic accidents. During this month, safety education will be provided every weekend to up to 500 delivery workers in Seoul at four driver's license examination centers in Seoul (Gangnam, Dobong, Gangseo, and Seobu).
This training not only includes theoretical education on safe driving methods and road traffic laws but also provides practical training at the skills test centers during weekends when the driver's license centers are closed, thereby offering substantial help in fostering safe driving habits among delivery workers. The Authority also cooperates with local police stations to encourage accident-free and violation-free driving by obtaining a 'Good Driving Mileage' pledge from those who complete the motorcycle safety education.
