Gwangju Nam-gu Climate School Seeks Insight on 'Sick Earth'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju (Mayor Kim Byung-nae) is consecutively conducting the ‘Climate School’ lecture program where environmental activists and residents participate together to protect the Earth suffering from climate change.
Nam-gu announced that, recognizing the growing need for environmental education, it will operate the ‘Nam-gu Climate School’ program every Wednesday until the 1st of next month.
The Climate School is a program conducted in collaboration with the Gwangju Jeonnam Buddhist Environmental Solidarity, established to seek insights into global environmental issues.
In particular, it aims to restore the devastated global ecosystem through practical activities in daily life in response to the increasingly severe climate change.
This awareness of the issue is clearly reflected in the lecture topics.
In the first lecture held on the 3rd, participants shared cases of residents of Seokgwan Apartments in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, practicing ‘carbon neutrality measures in the building sector’ in their daily lives.
The residents converted about 400 usable bicycles out of 2,000 bicycles left on the stairs into a shared resource for residents, achieving resource recycling and fire safety improvements, and created an eco-friendly complex by reducing energy waste through actions such as turning off air conditioner leakage breakers and adjusting the freezer and refrigerator temperatures.
The 2nd and 3rd lectures will be held on the 10th and 24th respectively, under the themes of ‘Transition to a Waste and Resource Circulation Society’ and ‘Promotion of Bicycle Use and Public Transportation,’ with Kang Sun-hwa, CEO of Ecological Environment Baroseum Movement Shoes, and Ahn Kyung-nam, Secretary General of Two-Wheel Recipe, serving as lecturers.
The final lecture will be delivered by Park Sang-eun, Secretary General of the Gwangju Social Economy Federation, under the theme ‘Creating a Decarbonized Society through Nuclear Phase-out and Social Economy.’
