Jeonju City Prevents Street Tree Calcium Chloride Damage Using Rice Straw
Installation of Eco-Friendly Rice Straw Windbreaks Along 5km Section Including Girindaero Horizontal Garden
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonju City announced on the 5th that it plans to install eco-friendly rice straw windbreaks along a 5km section, including the street garden on Girin-daero, by the 15th to protect roadside trees from winter deicing agents such as calcium chloride.
This measure is intended to prevent damage such as leaf chlorosis, necrosis, premature leaf drop, and metabolic disorders caused by calcium chloride sprayed on roads during winter snow removal operations splashing onto flowers and trees due to vehicle traffic.
The rice straw windbreak installation sections include Girin-daero from Hanok Village to the Palgwajeong-ro intersection and the Geumam Square area.
The installed windbreaks will be removed after the next winter season.
Jeonju City will also make thorough efforts in maintenance to prevent not only damage caused by calcium chloride but also winter wind and drought damage.
Earlier, during last summer, Jeonju City worked to promote the healthy growth of street trees by deploying watering vehicles and installing about 2,500 water bags in preparation for heatwaves and drought.
