"From Collaboration to Plogging"... The Continuing 'Eco-Friendly Trend' in Hotels This Fall
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] A strong 'eco-friendly wave' is sweeping through the hotel industry. Some hotels are launching room packages in collaboration with eco-friendly brands, while others have organized events where customers can pick up trash while taking a walk and receive gifts. This is driven by the dual purpose of participating in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management and aligning with the MZ generation (Millennials + Generation Z) customer trends that emphasize 'meaning out' and 'value consumption,' where consumers express their beliefs and values through their purchases.
The Courtyard Marriott Seoul Times Square Hotel has collaborated with the eco-startup Sustainablab, which addresses the single-use plastic problem in the tourism industry, to replace in-room amenity products with eco-friendly items under the brand 'Eden.' Along with this, they are offering the 'Earth Save Green' package. The package includes a one-night stay, Eden's 'Vegan Shower Earth Kit for Travel' product, and breakfast for two.
The 'Vegan Shower Earth Kit for Travel' contains six eco-friendly amenity items that maintain the functions of traditional amenities but eliminate plastic containers. It consists of plastic-free, palm oil-free, 100% plant-based vegan all-in-one products safe for children and pregnant women, along with an Earth Bar travel case, Earth Tap, Earth Brush & Bamboo travel case, and a mesh pouch.
Glad Hotel has partnered with a vegan beauty brand. Glad Hotel is offering the 'Dear Winter' package for winter staycations until January 31 next year. When staying one night in the concept room co-created with Dear Dahlia, guests receive a 'Dear Dahlia Party Set,' and when staying in a standard room, they receive the 'Dear Dahlia Paradise Dual Palette.' The package also includes ros? and poir? from the French cider brand 'Cec? Cidre,' and Maison Glad Jeju adds breakfast for two at the restaurant 'Samdajeong.'
The Dear Dahlia Paradise Dual Palette included in the package benefits can be used in various ways on the eyes, lips, and cheeks. One palette is provided at random, and when booking the concept room, guests receive the Dear Dahlia Party Set, which consists of the 'Paradise Shine Eye Sequin' emphasizing the eyes with a combination of pearl and glitter, the 'Matte Lip Suit Mini Collection,' and a 'Mini Marble Hand Mirror.' Dear Dahlia opposes animal testing and uses 100% vegan and cruelty-free ingredients that exclude animal-derived components.
Grand Josun Jeju, operated by Chosun Hotel & Resort, is holding an event in November to celebrate 'World Vegan Month,' where guests can experience 'plogging' while walking the Jeju Olle Trail. Plogging is a compound word from the Swedish 'plocka upp' meaning 'to pick up' and the English word 'jogging,' referring to picking up trash while walking or jogging.
As part of its ESG management, Grand Josun Jeju is conducting the 'Let's Plogging with Grand Josun Jeju' event, allowing hotel guests to naturally participate in preserving Jeju's environment by experiencing plogging firsthand. The event will be held twice, on the 13th and 20th, from 5:00 PM to 5:40 PM, during which participants will walk the Seogwipo Olle Trail, collect discarded trash, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Jeju.
All participants will receive one vegan moisturizing package worth 40,000 KRW from the vegan beauty brand 'Chasing Rabbit,' launched last November 1st in celebration of 'World Vegan Day,' per team. The event accepts up to 15 teams on a first-come, first-served basis for hotel guests and food and beverage customers who register at least three hours before the event on the day.
