'Negligence Allegations' Lead to Replacement of Incheon Airport International Postal Customs Manager and Others
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korea Customs Service announced that it will replace all customs managers suspected of negligence in their duties and has promised follow-up measures such as disciplinary actions.
On the 5th, the Korea Customs Service revealed that it had taken personnel actions including placing the Incheon Airport International Postal Customs Office chief on standby and replacing all managers and staff.
The personnel changes were made following allegations that employees at the Incheon Airport International Postal Customs Office neglected their duties such as drug detection and instead spent long hours playing games on their mobile phones rather than focusing on inspecting mail.
With this personnel action, Yoo Tae-su, head of the National Tax Investigation Division, was appointed as the new chief of the Incheon Airport International Postal Customs Office. Yoo, the new chief, is known as a leading inspector who previously served as the head of the Customs Service audit team and as an audit officer.
The Korea Customs Service plans to replace all 43 employees of the department in question early next week, along with placing the customs chief and other managerial staff on standby.
Additionally, based on the ongoing audit investigation results, follow-up measures including disciplinary actions against those involved in the allegations are planned to be implemented by the end of this month.
Earlier, immediately after the negligence allegations surfaced, the Korea Customs Service began an audit investigation on the 3rd targeting the employees and managers of the department in question.
