New COVID-19 Cases Remain in the 2,000s for Three Consecutive Days... 20 Deaths Reported Yesterday (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Joselgina] The number of new COVID-19 cases has continued to spread, recording over 2,000 cases for three consecutive days. The daily death toll was identified as 20.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight on the 5th, there were 2,324 new domestic cases and 20 imported cases, totaling 2,344 new confirmed cases. The total cumulative number of confirmed cases is 375,464 (including 15,194 imported cases).
The number of new COVID-19 cases has remained in the 2,000 range for three consecutive days. Although it decreased compared to the previous day (2,482 cases), it slightly increased compared to the previous week.
Looking at the new cases reported daily over the past week from the 30th of last month to this day, the numbers were 2,104 → 2,061 → 1,685 → 1,589 → 2,667 → 2,482 → 2,344, averaging about 2,133 cases per day.
With the easing of quarantine measures due to the phased recovery of daily life, the scale of the outbreak has grown, and the number of deaths has also shown an increasing trend.
As of midnight on this day, the number of new deaths was 20 (fatality rate 0.78%), marking the second consecutive day with deaths in the 20s following the highest daily death toll of 24 the previous day. Since the start of phased daily recovery (With COVID) on the 1st, the daily death counts were 9 on the 1st, 16 on the 2nd, 18 on the 3rd, 24 on the 4th, and 20 on this day.
On the same day, the number of critically ill patients in medical facilities was 382, an increase of 17 from the previous day (365). Critically ill patients refer to those receiving isolated treatment with high flow oxygen therapy, ventilators, ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation), or CRRT (continuous renal replacement therapy).
The infection routes of new confirmed cases on this day were 2,324 domestic cases and 20 imported cases. By region, the number of new domestic cases was 974 in Seoul, 740 in Gyeonggi, and 152 in Incheon, with the metropolitan area accounting for 1,866 cases, or 80.3% of the total.
Non-metropolitan areas reported 106 cases in Chungnam, 84 in Gyeongbuk, 56 in Busan, 43 in Daegu, 35 in Chungbuk, 33 in Gyeongnam, 24 in Daejeon, 22 in Gangwon, 16 in Jeonbuk, 15 in Jeonnam, 11 in Gwangju, 6 in Jeju, 5 in Ulsan, and 2 in Sejong.
Additionally, the number of suspected patient tests conducted at screening clinics the previous day was 50,437, and tests at temporary screening centers totaled 99,960. A total of 150,397 tests were conducted in one day.

Meanwhile, according to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team, as of midnight on this day, 60,047 people received their first dose, bringing the total number of first-dose recipients to 41,398,611. Among them, 123,194 completed their vaccination, totaling 39,099,285 people fully vaccinated.
