119 Compensation Decisions Among 369 COVID-19 Vaccination Adverse Reaction Claims (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] Among 369 cases of compensation claims filed due to adverse reactions after receiving the COVID-19 vaccination, compensation will be provided for 119 cases.
The COVID-19 Vaccination Injury Compensation Expert Committee (Chairman Kim Jung-gon) announced on the 2nd that it held the 12th COVID-19 Vaccination Injury Compensation Expert Committee meeting and reviewed a total of 369 cases of compensation claims filed due to adverse reactions after COVID-19 vaccination, deciding as such.
The committee consists of 15 members, including clinical doctors, forensic experts, specialists in infectious diseases, immunology, microbiology, lawyers, and experts recommended by civic groups.
Based on medical records, epidemiological investigations, underlying diseases, medical and family history, and clinical progress of adverse reactions after vaccination, the committee comprehensively reviewed the cases and decided to compensate a total of 119 cases (32.2%) that received treatment for adverse reactions such as fever, headache, muscle pain, dizziness, and allergic reactions after vaccination.
Out of a total of 79,819,994 vaccinations, 354,329 cases were reported as suspected adverse reactions. Among these, 5,293 cases (1.5%) applied for compensation due to adverse reactions severe enough to visit medical institutions and were reviewed by the compensation committee up to the 12th meeting. Compensation was decided for 2,406 cases (45.5%) among them.
Meanwhile, the task force is also providing up to 10 million KRW per person in medical expenses support through a medical expense support project for patients with severe or special interest adverse reactions after COVID-19 vaccination, who were excluded from compensation due to insufficient evidence of causality.
