Samsung C&T Resort Division announced on the 4th that Everland's self-developed rose, Garden Everscape, won the silver prize at the Japan "Gifu International Rose Competition."
The Gifu Rose Competition is an international contest certified by the World Rose Association, with participation from leading rose companies worldwide, including those from the UK, France, and the USA. It is held annually to select and promote excellent varieties.
At this competition, after a meticulous observation and judging process over more than two years for 53 rose varieties submitted in February 2019, the recent winners were announced.
Garden Everscape received high scores from the judges for its disease and pest resistance, floriferousness, and continuous blooming characteristics.
Garden Everscape is a single-flowered rose with apricot-colored petals developed after two years of research starting in 2015. It is resistant to diseases, pests, and cold, making it easy to manage. It blooms many flowers at once and continuously from spring to autumn, allowing for long-term appreciation.
Suitable as a garden landscaping rose, it is popular for landscaping at several botanical gardens and corporate sites such as Yeoncheon Herb Village and Baekdudaegan Arboretum. It has also gained word-of-mouth popularity among Rosarians (rose growers) cafes, leading to group purchases.
Everland has a long-standing relationship with roses. In 1985, it introduced the rose festival for the first time in Korea, introducing leisure culture centered around flowers to the Korean public. The rose festival is the forerunner of many flower festivals currently held in Korea.
Since 2013, Everland has been promoting the localization of roses, conducting over 1,500 artificial crossbreeding sessions annually and developing 28 new rose varieties to date. Twenty varieties have been registered with the National Seed Management Office, and eight are under registration review. Starting this year, these 28 varieties have been planted in the Everland Rose Garden and showcased to customers.
Samsung C&T’s Ha Hosu, a professional who participated in the development of Garden Everscape, said, "We are very honored that our first submission won an award at a world-class rose competition for the first time in Korea. We will strive to develop more beautiful and healthy new varieties so that Everland’s roses are loved in many places both domestically and internationally."
