Moon Seung-wook, Minister of Industry, to Visit the US on the 9th... Discusses 'Semiconductor Data Submission' with US Commerce Secretary
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] As the United States demands semiconductor companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix to submit supply chain information, Moon Seung-wook, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, is planning a visit to the U.S. to discuss this issue. They will also discuss bilateral cooperation measures to ease U.S. export restrictions on Korean steel.
According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on the 4th, Minister Moon is scheduled to visit the U.S. from the 9th to the 11th to meet with the Secretary of Commerce and the Secretary of Energy.
The timing of Minister Moon's visit comes immediately after the deadline for submitting information requested by the U.S. from semiconductor companies. Minister Moon is expected to explain the difficulties faced by Korean semiconductor companies in submitting additional data due to trade secret protection and discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries. Earlier, as the semiconductor supply shortage continued, the U.S. government requested global semiconductor companies to submit questionnaires containing supply chain information such as semiconductor inventory, orders, and sales last September.
