Kim Geun-sik "Kim Eo-jun, why blame innocent Oh Se-hoon... Even tantrums have limits"
"If you want to run a 'Daekkaemun broadcast' as an independent station, achieve financial independence by receiving Daekkaemun donations, not public taxes"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Soyoung] Professor Kim Geunsik of Gyeongnam University sharply criticized broadcaster Kim Eo-jun's call for Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon to "allow commercial advertising" amid the "TBS appearance fee cut," saying it is "like looking for scorched rice water at the well, and even tantrums have their limits."
On the 3rd, Professor Kim wrote on his Facebook, "The person who prohibited commercial advertising on TBS, which became an independent foundation last year from a Seoul city-affiliated agency, is Han Sang-hyuk, the chairman of the Korea Communications Commission appointed by President Moon Jae-in," he said.
He explained, "Six radio stations requested a ban on advertising, and at that time, the Korea Communications Commission granted the independent broadcasting license on the condition of no commercial advertising." He added, "Why blame Mayor Oh Se-hoon unfairly? Even the idiom yeonmokguo (looking for fish in a tree) should be used appropriately."
He then pointed out, "If you want to freely run a 'Daeggae-moon broadcast' as an independent station, you should either achieve financial independence through Daeggae-moon donations instead of public taxes, or if you want to generate revenue through commercial advertising, you should pressure Chairman Han Sang-hyuk of the Korea Communications Commission."
Professor Kim said, "If neither of these, then you should deeply reflect and secure the fairness of the broadcast or start restructuring by cutting Kim Eo-jun's appearance fees first. Don't hold rice cakes in both hands comfortably and talk nonsense."
Earlier, on the 1st, Seoul City announced the next year's budget plan, which includes reducing TBS appearance fees by 12.3 billion won from 37.5 billion won to 25.2 billion won this year. Regarding this, Mayor Oh explained, "To truly become independent, financial independence must come first, and that power comes from advertising revenue."

In response, on the 3rd, Kim said during a conversation with Kim In-ho, chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, on his TBS program 'Kim Eo-jun's News Factory,' "If Mayor Oh Se-hoon allows commercial advertising and cuts the budget, it would be greatly welcomed." He lamented, "The TBS FM channel cannot have commercial advertising and cannot receive broadcasting development funds. Since we cannot receive advertising, if the budget is cut entirely, there is no way out."
