Gyeongnam Province Launches Quality Job Creation Initiative in 'Ulsan-Gyeongnam Regional Innovation Platform'
A Total of 308.6 Billion KRW to Be Invested Over 5 Years Until 2024
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] On the afternoon of the 3rd, Gyeongsangnam-do held a regional cooperation committee meeting at the Ulsan-Gyeongnam Regional Innovation Platform General Operation Center, attended by representatives from major local universities, companies, and innovation institutions.
The Regional Innovation Platform is a project where local governments, universities, and companies collaborate to nurture talent and connect them to employment, aiming to encourage youth to settle in the region and revitalize the local industry and economy.
The province was selected for the Ministry of Education's Regional Innovation Platform project competition as a single-type for Gyeongnam in 2020 and as a multiple-type for Gyeongnam and Ulsan in 2021, planning to invest a total of 308.6 billion KRW over five years until 2024.
At the committee meeting, they shared the achievements of the project so far and discussed ways to provide practical support to local students and companies in the future.
First, to expand cooperation with companies and employment linkage, they agreed to reorganize the Ulsan-Gyeongnam Regional Innovation Platform General Operation Center, the main institution executing the project, and reinforce professional personnel.
Additionally, former president of the Korea Information Society Agency, Jang Kwang-su, was appointed as the new head of the General Operation Center. Director Jang, a 24th administrative examination pass, has played a key role in implementing Korea's e-government through his experience at the Economic Planning Board, Ministry of Information and Communication, and as head of the Informatization Strategy Office at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
Furthermore, to strengthen the corporate cooperation model, Park Min-won, head of the Gyeongnam Changwon Smart Green Industrial Complex Project Group, was appointed as a non-standing industry-academia cooperation policy advisor.
Director Park has served as a member of the Provincial Economic Innovation Promotion Committee and has achieved results such as attracting the Korea Electronics Technology Institute, Samsung SDS Southeast Regional Headquarters, and NHN Cloud Data Center. He has played a comprehensive role in the manufacturing innovation policies of the 7th Gyeongnam provincial government, including the expansion of Gyeongnam-type smart factories and the smartification of industrial complexes.
Acting Governor Ha Byung-pil stated, "We will strive to establish a virtuous cycle structure that strengthens the competitiveness of the settlement area by enabling local talent to obtain jobs locally."
Meanwhile, through the Regional Innovation Platform project so far, the province has worked hard to recruit local talent in connection with LG Electronics, Volvo Korea, and has promoted the nurturing and employment linkage of IT talent through educational programs in cooperation with NHN.
