"5th Grade Son's Gum Pierced by Chicken Bone Screw... Two Natural Teeth Extracted"
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] A fifth-grade elementary school student had two permanent teeth extracted after a screw found in chicken got stuck in his gums.
According to Yonhap News on the 3rd, Mr. A, who lives in Seoul, said that at the end of August, his son was eating a product from a famous chicken franchise when a small screw from the chicken wing got stuck in his gums, resulting in the extraction of two permanent teeth. However, he has not received any compensation for the damage for three months.

Mr. A also revealed a hospital diagnosis report stating that B’s teeth were loose, two were extracted, and additional examination might be necessary.
Company C conducted an investigation for over a month and a half until the 15th of last month after receiving the report of the screw discovery. They concluded that there were no issues in their raw chicken supply and processing stages and suspected the screw might have come from the franchise store. However, the franchise store denied using the screw found in the chicken and expressed frustration, saying they have no idea how it got there.

Mr. A stated, "Fortunately, the two extracted teeth were baby teeth, and permanent teeth are expected to come in the future. However, the doctor said that if the teeth are lost due to external impact like this, the permanent teeth might grow in irregularly like crooked teeth, which would require orthodontic treatment. I understand that everyone is having a hard time during the COVID-19 pandemic, but reasonable compensation is necessary."
He added, "My child is at an age where he should be eating well, but after the accident, he has been cautious about eating not only chicken but all kinds of food, which is heartbreaking to see."
A representative from Company C said, "We understand that the parents must be very distressed because their growing child was injured. We sincerely apologize for the accident that happened while consuming our product and will prepare appropriate compensation measures along with the franchise store’s insurance processing."
