'Legal Issues and Improvement Measures Regarding Big Tech's Entry into the Financial Industry'... Best Paper
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The Bank of Korea has selected a paper addressing the legal issues and improvement measures related to Big Tech's entry into the financial industry as the best paper in this year's Financial Economic Law Research Paper Contest.
On the 3rd, the Bank of Korea announced the winners of the '2021 Financial Economic Law Research Paper Contest,' which was held for university (graduate) students and financial sector workers. The Financial Economic Law Research Paper Contest has been held annually since 2014 to raise interest and research atmosphere regarding central banking and financial economic legislation.
This year, after evaluation by internal and external experts, a total of four outstanding papers were selected: one best paper, one excellence award, and two encouragement awards.
The best paper award went to "Legal Issues and Improvement Measures Related to Big Tech's Entry into the Financial Industry," co-authored by Kim Yejin, Baek Gisung, and Joo Sunyoung from the Graduate School of Law at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. The excellence award was given to "A Study on Stablecoin Regulation Measures through Overseas Cases."
The encouragement awards were given to papers titled "Legal Issues and Improvement Measures Following the Implementation of MyData Projects in the Financial Sector" and "A Study on the Effects of the Amendment of the Three Data Laws on Financial Revitalization and the Protection of Personal Information Self-Determination Rights."

Meanwhile, awardees will receive a certificate from the Governor along with a monetary prize, and for the next five years, they will be given preferential treatment in document screening when applying for new employee (G5) recruitment at the Bank of Korea. The winning papers will be published in a collection.
