Seoul City Chungmu Drill, Joint Emergency Restoration Training by Civil, Military, and Government for Han River Bridge Destruction Preparedness
Emergency Preparedness Capability Check and Chungmu Drill Conducted in Preparation for Wartime Situations
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul City announced on the 3rd that it will conduct the 2021 Chungmu Training for 3 nights and 4 days from the 1st to the 4th.
The actual training, held at 2 p.m. on the 3rd at the southern end of Haengju Bridge, is a joint civil-military-government exercise organized by Seoul City, involving the Capital Defense Command and private emergency repair companies. It uses prefabricated truss bridge stock materials for emergency restoration of bridges on the Han River destroyed during wartime.
In case the Han River bridges are destroyed during war, measures are taken in three stages: Stage 1 (usage control), Stage 2 (securing detour bridges), and Stage 3 (emergency restoration). The actual training focuses on Stage 3, the emergency restoration phase.

Gal Jun-seon, Seoul City's Emergency Planning Officer, said, “The significance of this actual training is that it is conducted with the military using the wartime bridge destruction recovery materials possessed by Seoul City. It is a very important exercise to prepare for wartime mission capability, and we intend to hold it regularly in the future.”
