Man in his 20s arrested for causing disturbance at ex-girlfriend's house... First case under Gwangju region's stalking law
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The first case of arrest in the Gwangju area has occurred since the 'Stalking Punishment Act' was enforced on the 21st of last month.
Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station announced on the 2nd that they have booked a man in his 20s, Mr. A, on charges of causing a disturbance by visiting his ex-girlfriend's house and asking to meet again (violation of the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes), and plan to send him to the prosecution.
Mr. A is accused of creating anxiety by knocking on the front door and ringing the doorbell for more than an hour and 30 minutes after his ex-girlfriend, who broke up with him on the 21st of last month, continuously refused to meet him.
It is known that Mr. A admitted all charges during the police investigation.
The police, who arrived at the scene following the victim woman's report, immediately separated the perpetrator and the victim, and have even sent a warning letter to Mr. A stating that he must not repeat such violations.
The police plan to send the case to the prosecution with a recommendation for indictment as early as the 3rd.
Meanwhile, stalking crimes were previously punishable only by a fine of up to 100,000 won, detention, or a minor fine under the Minor Offenses Act, but since the enforcement of the 'Stalking Punishment Act,' offenders can face imprisonment of up to three years or a fine of up to 30 million won.
