Former Director Jo Ji-hoon: "I Will Make Jeonju a Human Rights City Where No One Is Marginalized"
Announcement of Pledges Related to Persons with Disabilities, Including Attraction of Workplaces for Persons with Disabilities
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jo Ji-hoon, former director of the Jeonbuk Economic and Trade Promotion Agency, who declared his candidacy for mayor of Jeonju in next year's local elections, announced disability-related pledges aimed at evolving Jeonju into a human rights city where no one is marginalized.
On the 2nd, Jo held a press conference at the Jeonju City Hall briefing room and emphasized, "I will create a Jeonju where people with disabilities can live independently, and where education and safety are guaranteed."
To this end, he presented a blueprint to secure a total of 1,000 jobs by attracting workplaces for people with disabilities so they can confidently become economic agents and achieve independence, including public jobs for people with severe disabilities.
He also promised to change the entire system related to people with disabilities by establishing a one-stop support system through the formulation of a comprehensive support plan for people with disabilities, setting up a mayor-directly affiliated Human Rights Committee for people with disabilities, and appointing a person with a disability as the head of the disability welfare team.
Additionally, Jo pledged to strengthen the protection of human rights for people with disabilities by operating educational institutions for disability awareness improvement, establishing independent living bases such as self-reliant housing for people with disabilities, securing safe walking paths, and creating standard manuals for people with disabilities in the event of infectious diseases and disasters to enhance safety.
Along with this, he proposed innovative promotion of tourism and cultural enjoyment rights for people with disabilities through the development of tourism content tailored to different types of disabilities, construction of a complex cultural center for people with disabilities in Deokjin-gu, and support for the establishment and operation of cultural and artistic groups for people with disabilities.
Jo said, "I have devoted as much effort to disability policies as to economic policies," and added, "Based on a human rights city that guarantees independent living and rights, I will definitely create a Jeonju that everyone can enjoy."
