20 New Project Teams Selected for the Expansion of the 'Campus Asia' Program

120 Million Won Support over 5 Years for 20 Project Teams
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of Education and the Korean Council for University Education announced on the 2nd the results of the selection of new project groups for the Korea-Japan-China university student exchange program '2021 CAMPUS Asia' Korea-Japan-China expansion project.
The 20 final selected project groups, based on domestic universities, are Korea University (Graduate School of International Studies), Korea University (College of Political Science and Economics), Dongseo University (Department of CAMPUS Asia Studies), Pukyong National University (Department of Artificial Intelligence Convergence), Pukyong National University (Department of Marine and Fisheries Management), Pusan National University (Department of Mechanical Engineering), Pusan National University (Department of Architecture), Seoul National University (Graduate School of International Studies), Seoul National University (College of Liberal Studies), Seoul National University (College of Dentistry), Yonsei University (Department of Dentistry), Sungkyunkwan University (Law School), Seoul National University (College of Law and Law School), Sungkyunkwan University (Graduate School of Water Resources), Yonsei University (College of Design and Arts), Yonsei University (College of Medicine), Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (College of Engineering/Campus Exchange Center), Korea National University of Education (Department of Education, etc.), Korea National University of Arts (School of Film, TV & Multimedia), Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (Office of International Exchange), Korea Maritime and Ocean University (Graduate School of Marine Science and Technology), Korea Maritime and Ocean University (Department of Maritime Police).
The three countries conducted national evaluations in September and finalized the selection of 20 new project groups through a consensus process by the end of October.
The CAMPUS Asia project is an exchange program aimed at enhancing mutual understanding and promoting exchanges between universities in the three countries through joint and double degree programs. A total of 6,625 students participated in student exchanges, and 497 obtained double degrees. The CAMPUS Asia project has been implemented since 2011, starting with a pilot phase in the first stage, followed by the main project from 2016, and will be promoted as an expansion project over the next five years.
In this expansion project, the program was reorganized as CAMPUS Asia Plus, with the addition of universities from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Selected schools will receive approximately 120 million KRW annually for five years to support program operation costs such as the development of online and offline joint curricula. In this project, not only living expenses for dispatched students but also settlement support funds and emergency assistance funds can be provided.

Jung Jong-cheol, Vice Minister of Education, said, "In the context of COVID-19, strengthening cooperation in education and human exchanges among Korea, Japan, China, and ASEAN countries is becoming increasingly important," and added, "The Ministry of Education will actively support the cultivation of capable international talents who will lead future societies."
