[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH) announced that Seoul Botanic Park received the Excellence Award at the '2021 IFLA Asia-Pacific Landscape Awards' hosted by the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) on the 2nd.
Seoul Botanic Park, developed by SH, opened in May 2019 in the Magok Urban Development District of Seoul. It has established itself as a landmark symbolizing the Magok district and continues to attract a steady flow of visitors.
The International Federation of Landscape Architects, founded in 1948, is the representative organization of landscape architects worldwide, with 77 member countries. The IFLA Awards ceremony is an event where the federation annually selects and honors environmental projects that have achieved qualitative benefits or improvements in the environment.
This year's ceremony was held online via YouTube live streaming due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with a total of 397 entries submitted across 19 categories. Seoul Botanic Park received the Excellence Award in the Park and Open Space category.
Seoul Botanic Park is a botanic park where a botanical garden and a park are organically combined, equipped with an ecological circulation function that allows the coexistence of urban and natural environments. It received high marks for its modern reinterpretation of the beautiful landscape of Magok. Additionally, the corporation stated that the park was highly evaluated for providing citizens, exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, a place to walk and rest, helping them maintain their daily lives.
