[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] As the party member voting to select the People Power Party's presidential candidate began on the 1st, former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol emphasized, "I will not say that the country will change immediately if I become president. However, I will revive the damaged constitutional spirit and firmly establish the rule of law."
On the same day, Yoon posted on his Facebook under the title "I Want to Be a Bridge Over Troubled Waters for Future Generations," saying, "Over the past four years, we have been in despair. This is because, contrary to the promises of those in power, 'opportunities were unequal, processes were unfair, and outcomes were not just.'
He pointed out, "The real estate market, which was said to be under control, soared without limit; the jobs that were supposed to be created were destroyed; and as symbolized by the Daejang-dong Gate, the depths of corruption grew deeper. Politics and power were abused not for the public good but for personal gain. Even so, whenever problems arose, they consistently responded with arrogance, blaming others, and double standards."
He continued, "Our party members also shared this despair," adding, "Repeated defeats, continuous failures of reform, ongoing emergency committee systems, internal conflicts, the harsh gaze of the public, and what seemed like a bleak prospect for regime change. Because of this, our party members experienced continuous despair and frustration."
He criticized, "Some again make false promises, saying 'we will do something for you,' as if they alone understand and represent the difficult circumstances of ordinary people. As if politics and the presidency were some kind of magic wand. Even though all this would be funded by taxpayers' money and obviously become a burden on future generations."
Furthermore, he emphasized, "I will strongly punish corrupt forces that abuse power. I will create a country where common sense prevails, fairness and justice breathe, and anyone who works hard is rewarded."
