The Korea-Canada joint AI research project promoted by the Changwon Artificial Intelligence Research Center is a project initiated in 2019 when the city and KERI signed an agreement with the University of Waterloo in Canada, combining artificial intelligence with Changwon's machinery industry to lead manufacturing innovation.
The detailed cooperation areas include supporting R&D activities in AI to revitalize the regional economy and improve citizens' lives, continuously securing representative AI models for regionally specialized industries, expanding the AI base, and cooperating to spread scientific culture.
Before signing the agreement, the project progress report showed that the productivity of first-year demonstration companies improved by 33-66%, and second-year demonstration companies achieved a defect rate reduction of 60-67%, receiving high praise in the industrial field.
The significance lies in expanding this innovative project from the basic local government of Changwon to a wider area, responding to new industries in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, revitalizing the regional economy, and further laying the foundation for building the Southeast Mega City.
Mayor Heo Seong-mu said, "We will do our best to mutually cooperate to expand research and development in the artificial intelligence field through this agreement, and I am pleased to work together with Busan City for our common goals."
Changwon City plans to open the 'AI Research Hub,' a joint AI research center at the University of Waterloo in Canada, on the 17th, and in mid-November, hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the AI-based ultra-high voltage power equipment international accredited testing and certification center, bringing the achievements of the AI project within reach.
Once the University of Waterloo AI Research Hub opens, it is expected to further activate technology exchanges in the manufacturing AI field that have been promoted so far and establish a human exchange system.
